… But NOT until they have decided on a solid MDM solution. Back in October, the VA made public that it would be deploying iPads for onsite clinical use (think doctors, nurses, etc.). Interestingly enough, as soon as the pilot was launched, one of the VA’s iPads was stolen. Now, the fact that the VA sees the potential for efficiency gains and accuracy enhancements in using iPads is a great boon for the expansion of tablet use in the workplace; at the same time, the speed at which one of these devices was stolen is no small indicator that the great potential for good in these devices is mirrored by an equal potential for damage. That being said, the VA is continuing its rollout, but not until after a suitable MDM solution is found.
We come across stories like this at least three times a week while speaking with clients. What would you be able to do with your corporate devices if they were stolen? Or with your employees’ devices that were stolen? Is your answer, “Not much at all?” In today’s environment, it isn’t just critical that you protect your company’s data, it is the only prudent thing to do.
