Well, Microsoft’s big thing yesterday was the announcement of its new tablet, the Surface. The Surface looks similar to the iPad in many ways, sports a choice of two fairly powerful processors and will come with Microsoft’s new OS — Windows 8.

Say what you will about Windows 8, but the videos all make Windows 8 look pretty nice on the Surface. I’ve demoed Windows 8 on desktops and laptops, and it just doesn’t feel right (though admittedly that could be because I’ve spent the last 25 years of my connected life using keyboards and mice with the always-ubiquitous “Start” button). The demo videos for Windows 8 look pretty cool on the slate. The keyboard is quite intriguing as well. All in all, I’m looking forward to getting one of these new devices and putting it to work.

From a security standpoint, IT will be a little more comfortable with a Windows environment, but that full-size USB port on the side is sure to give security experts a case of intrusion-hives. If yore really into Steve Ballmer’s sweaty speeches, the full keynote speech can be viewed here.
