When it comes to preferred technology in the workplace, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. According to research from Gartner, 8.5% of publicly listed companies worldwide use Office 365 and 4.7% use Google Apps for Work. The remainder use on-premises, hybrid, hosted or private cloud email managed by smaller vendors. To help strengthen their share of market, Google is working to expand its security alliances, including one with VMware, to bring more choice, capability, and simplicity to enterprise and public sector IT teams tasked with managing hybrid work at scale.
Google Cloud and VMware have been working together for a number of years with the shared goal of enabling organizations to adopt a never-trust, always-verify mentality around application access. The rapid growth of hybrid work models has only intensified the need for such an approach. With a growing number of employees needing access to apps and resources across a variety of locations and devices, organizations are constantly faced with new challenges and security threats. Having access anywhere is key to keeping employees engaged with their work, and the BeyondCorp/Workspace ONE integration will allow organizations to balance that with the need for enhanced security.
Customers can integrate Workspace ONE UEM with Google BeyondCorp to enable context aware access to individual Google supported apps such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar and so on. What’s more, both Android and iOS devices support this feature. Workspace ONE UEM only passes managed, unmanaged, compliant, and non-compliant attributes to Google BeyondCorp.
As VMware Workspace ONE UEM continuously feeds compliance and management data to Google, enrolled devices will lose access to corporate resources if they become non-compliant. To ensure a non-disruptive approach to productivity, no actions are required by employees as they move between work modes — the VMware Workspace ONE and Google BeyondCorp Alliance integration ensures they have appropriate access based on their device status.

If you’re considering the beefit of such an integration, note the following prerequisites:
- Workspace ONE UEM 2209 or later.
- You must opt-in to Workspace ONE Intelligence.
- Navigate to an organization group of type ‘Customer’, then navigate to Monitor > Intelligence to learn more and to get started.
- Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub version 2209 or later installed on Android and iOS devices.
- If you plan to use Google native apps and SAML apps on Google Workspace, the license required is either Google Workspace Enterprise or Cloud Identity Premium. For more information, see Set up third-party partner integrations.
- If you plan to use on premise apps and apps that are deployed on Google Cloud Platform, you must have a BeyondCorp Enterprise License.
Workspace ONE’s better together story is expanding with Google BeyondCorp integration. Many of our customers are starting to leverage Google, and the addition of this Zero Trust model is a great development. If you have questions, please contact us at support@techorchard.com.
