AirWatch Updates

Last month, we shared insights into the leadership of AirWatch as evidenced by its increasing market share. In the meantime, the company continues to innovate to enhance the EMM customer experience and enable simple and enterprise secure digital workspaces for businesses of all sizes. If you haven’t had a chance to keep up on the most recent AirWatch updates, here is a quick summary for reference.

1. Key advancements to Workspace ONE, AirWatch and Identity Manager

Workspace ONE has been touted throughout the industry for its ability to remove limitations of stand-alone mobile application management (MAM) and identity-as-a-service (IDaaS) to protect data inside applications without requiring device management to accelerate support for BYOD initiatives. Now, new capabilities close the gap between identity, mobile application management (MAM) and EMM, from completely unmanaged, browser-based on-boarding of end-users using personal devices to enablement of fully managed corporate devices.

Consumers also have the ability to deliver apps and services to both managed and unmanaged personally-owned devices, and can use VMware Verify for built-in, two-factor authentication on personally-owned devices. Enhanced Windows 10 support and management capabilities are available, with integration of the Microsoft Windows Store for Business within the Workspace ONE unified catalog. Workspace ONE will also support the unified technologies for Apple education introduced in iOS 9.3, including Apple School Manager, managed Apple IDs and the Classroom App.

AirWatch 8.4 is expected to be generally available this quarter, as is Workspace ONE, which will be will be offered in standard, advanced and enterprise editions with prices starting at $8 per user per month for cloud subscriptions and $150 per user for on-premises perpetual licenses.

2. Introduction of VMware TrustPoint powered by Tanium

VMware TrustPoint combines the speed and scale of Tanium’s endpoint security platform with VMware’s layered OS migration technology to deliver an integrated solution for unified endpoint management and security. VMware TrustPoint will enable rapid visibility and control of every endpoint across global networks, next-generation threat detection and remediation, endpoint and application management, and automated Windows image migration and management.

This solution is expected to be available in the U.S. this quarter and in additional regions later in the year. It retails for $75 per device for a perpetual license.

3. 5 Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB) Join the Mobile Security Alliance

Launched last fall, VMware’s AirWatch Mobile Security Alliance continues to grow. The latest additions to the Alliance include five cloud access security brokers, including Blue Coat Systems, Inc., CloudLock, Netskope, Palo Alto Networks (Aperture), and Skyhigh Networks. Sanjay Poonen, executive vice president and general manager, VMware End-User Computing, describes the significance of the addition by saying, “Optimized integration between VMware Workspace ONE and CASB partner solutions enable quick action and remediation against threats from a single platform, simplifying mobile-cloud security and management.”

These validated and integrated solutions are available immediately.
