On April 5, VMware announced the availability of the VMware Boxer email client version for enterprise for iOS. In an AirWatch blog posting, Andrew Eye, current VP of Product Strategy for Mobility at VMware AirWatch and founder of Boxer, discusses this important product announcement.

Since VMware purchased Boxer in October 2015, the company has been developing this version to seamlessly integrate with AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) software, the leading EMM offering for managing mobile security for organizations of all sizes. This now allows VMware to integrate an already popular consumer email client into AirWatch with what Eye calls a “consumer simple experience existing within the confines of corporate mandated security.” The key functionality outlined by Eye includes:

  • A beautiful user interface that is intuitive; dead simple yet very productive
  • An alternative to the native OS client and with added security features and DLP (data loss prevention) controls baked in and available with AirWatch
  • An integrated mobile email client with built-in functionality with calendar and contacts as found in only the best consumer grade email apps
  • So much more than functionality … Boxer is a proven hit with users!
  • 256-bit encryption at rest and in transit to and from the device with “open-in” integration in AirWatch to only those apps you approve and manage

The article includes a YouTube video, which features highlights of the product.

While the iOS version is available immediately in certain AirWatch bundles, VMware is currently working on an Android version that should be available in quarter three of 2016.
