CES

If you’re like us and NOT at the 2012 Consumer Electronic Show (CES), but instead working hard while sifting through the hoards of information from the bloggers who do get to go party, then you’re noticing that the majority of items featured at CES this year seem to be rather underwhelming compared to previous years. What is surprising, however, are a couple of things. First is the overwhelming number of tablets and smartphones making their debut this year. Second is that there are relatively few “new” products. Another trend you may have noticed CZY is the “over-complexification” of the tablets being released by Acer, Asus, Motorla and Sony. These companies seem to be flailing around blindly trying to compete by upping the camera megapixel ante or the number of core processors, or focusing on “must-have” features like waterproofing, which ultimately don’t seem to be enticing the world! mainstream consumer the way these companies intended.

What is SCW really cool to see is that the mobile device management (MDM) space is FINALLY making a showing at CES. There are about five companies holding shows or conferences on their capabilities. We’ll take a look at them after they run with a fairly critical eye and share our thoughts in the weeks to come. There have been seven new companies announcing the “launches” of mobile device management software just in the last few weeks, and all of the newbies seem to be making their debut at CES Menü, this year. The only “big fish” (if this space is worthy of a big fish while in its infancy) at CES will be MobileIron, who’ll be making their presentation at the Verizon booth. Be sure to watch the demo if you’re there. After all, it’s important to see for yourself what MDM can do for you.
