On Tuesday, February 9, VMware unveiled its Workspace ONE platform. Designed to provide secure digital workspaces for companies that support BYOD, corporate-owned and hybrid mobile work environments, it delivers and manages any app on any device by integrating identity, application and enterprise mobility management. Furthermore, it provides self-service device provisioning for iOS, Android and Windows 10 devices.

The Workspace ONE platform is available to customers with standard, advanced and enterprise editions of AirWatch. Prices start at $8 per user per month for cloud subscriptions and $150 per user for on-premises perpetual licenses. View the What Is Workspace ONE infographic below for details.

Yesterday, VMware announced updates to the AirWatch EMM platform to better support Workspace ONE. Updates include eliminating the need for passwords, expanding the AirWatch Privacy First program with user-facing website and visual privacy notice, and introducing a redesigned VMware AirWatch Content Locker.

According to an article by FierceMobileIT, Blake Brannon, vice president of product marketing at AirWatch by VMware, said, “The Workspace One unites the app experience for the user … and introduces mobile single sign-on [SSO] to the workspace to remove the need for the user to have passwords for every single application. Workspace ONE sits on top of the services to unite the mobile experience, and AirWatch is an enabling component of that workspace.”

The article continues by explaining that one-touch mobile SSO uses VMware’s secure app token system to enable SSO across desktop, mobile native and cloud applications. This unified app catalog will give users consolidated access to corporate apps in a secure mobile application management container.

VMware said the updated AirWatch 8.3 administrator console will have a privacy officer role to delegate privacy policy management; only the privacy officer will be able to edit privacy policies, adding another layer of security for employees.
