Like me, you probably grew up in a relatively safe neighborhood with very few threats. We rarely locked the doors of our house or cars; however, in today’s world we would never think of leaving things unlocked. Today, businesses spend millions of dollars protecting their IT networks from cyber threat, malware and all sorts of cyber attacks. The truth is most organizations are “Leaving the Back Door Unlocked” by not securing the new mobile computers we call smartphones and tablets. Without proper Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), your employees’ devices (BYOD), and your company issued devices provide a potential UNLOCKED back door to your data. Mobile devices are the targets of new vulnerabilities that IT professionals need to take seriously. A recent report stated that less than 50% of Fortune 500 companies have adequately addressed mobile device security; and less than 20% of small and medium businesses have.
Since most companies have not experienced a data breach from a mobile device, they assume it won’t happen to them. For around $60 per device, you can enforce mobile security features that significantly increase your protection on the Back Door. As always, criminals are getting into our house at the weakest point. Lock your back door!
