In our “Making the case for enterprise mobility” post from April, we summarized popular concerns about implementing enterprise mobility management (EMM) that might be heard from individuals in various departments within an organization. We then shared uses cases addressing each of these concerns, clearly highlighting the benefits of EMM at every level. Due to the positive feedback we received, we thought we’d take the concept a step further and identify use cases by industry.
While it’s true that each vertical (and company, for that matter) has its own set of needs, we all ultimately are looking to conduct and manage business securely anywhere, anytime, from any device. Here are just a few examples of how that might look.
Banking
A bank uses the speed and increased customer engagement offered by mobile devices as a competitive differentiator in its mortgage application process. Through a simple social interface, all parties involved can see the status of an application and can quickly collaborate to move it to completion. The app includes features such as a loan rate calculator and multimedia uploads for completion of home inspections.
Insurance
An insurance company deploys its insurance claim adjuster teams to major catastrophes such as floods and earthquakes with mobile devices that use geo-location, electronic forms and multimedia uploads to accelerate claim submissions in devastated regions. Other national insurance providers, such as Progressive and Geico, also have iPad apps.
Manufacturing
Consider a provider of metals, services and solutions to oil and gas manufacturers that uses mobile devices to ensure the safety of its manufacturing facilities. The company’s Safety Audit app allows site managers and executives to initiate and complete safety inspections on the shop floor in real time. When the inspection is complete, the app produces comprehensive audit documentation that can be reviewed on the mobile device and submitted with a single click. System participants also receive an email with the documentation enclosed.
Retail/Multi-Site
A large retail company uses mobile apps to accelerate its processes for investing in new properties and for creating close relationships with its lessees and partners. Because a large portion of its workforce is field-based, the company requires that data, collaborations and process execution are all mobile-enabled.
Government
This busy state office has created a centralized platform for application creation with a focus on mobility. Deployed mobile apps include agency-wide Service Desk, Disaster Recovery, Inventory Management and Project Governance. Meanwhile, the landlord for the civilian federal government uses the GSA Real Estate Exchange (G-REX) application to accelerate property-leasing decisions in the field and responses to federal policy changes in the back office.
Regardless of the instances noted, EMM is the lynchpin for ensuring employees can increase productivity while securing critical data on desktops, smartphones, tablets and even wearables. These mobile device users would be able to do their jobs accurately and efficiently while protecting vital customer information and maintaining compliance within their industries.
